Technical information

Note

all technical information is for uncolored monofiles only.

Diameters:

*0,08 - 4 mm

due to the fabrication process and the material characteristics, it is possible that the cross section may not be entirely round allowable cross section tolerances and ovality according to DIN 4196, tolerance class2.

Yardage:

35.000 - 500 m

the effective yardage results from the possible cross section derivations

at smaller cross sections the yardage may differ more from the calculated data than at larger cross sections.

Load bearing capacity:

7,5 - 3925 N (average values)

the effective values can differ from the average values up to ± 10%

Note:

all above mentioned resistance/rigidity values are calculated auxiliary quantities.

Physical and chemical data

NYLON - monofile

chemical consistence is a caprolactam-type polyamide

density: 1,14 g/cm3

melting point: 215 ?C

medium specific heat:approx. 0,4 cal/g?C

electrical characteristics: electrical resistance 108 to 1015 Ohm.

dielectric constancy: 3 to 6 (depending on humidity factor)

dielectric strength: 200 to 400 kV/cm

humidity influence:

nylon monofile contains approx. 4% water at 20? C room temperature and 65% relative humidity water absorption at bulking in water is approx. 10%

Resistance:

  •  against heat:

depends on diameter in general

the characteristics of nylon-monofile do generally not change up to temperatures of 100? C higher temperatures for short times do normally not influence the stability.

  •  against cold

Down to - 20?C: Loss of hardness 30%

Down to - 30?C: Loss of hardness 55%

  •  against solvents

nylon-monofile is resistant to most solvents, like aliphatic carbon hydride, halocarbon, aliphatic alcohol, aldehyde, ketones and so on, at room temperature

solves at room temperature with phenol, m-cresol, resocrin, monochlorophenol, chloral hydrate solves at warmer temperatures with benzyl alcohol, formamide, diethyl glycol, ethylene chlorohydrins.

  •  against acids

resistance against acids depends mostly on the type of acid, it's concentration, the temperature and the duration of exposure

cold and depleted acids do generally little harm heavy concentrations and high temperatures do in hence solvation.

  •  against alkali

nylon-monofile is highly resistant to alkali in almost any concentration

  •  against bleach

nylon-monofile is highly resistant to alkali in almost any concentration.

  •  against germs

nylon-monofile is non bio degradable

long term exposure to inland water mud and sea water as well as long term exposure to tropical climate do not degrade the strength of the material.

  •  gainst exposure to light

after 300 hrs of intensive sun light exposure we noticed only a small degree of degraded rigidity.

Coloring

nylon-monofile is suited for coloring by polyamide colors in high grades.

Tolerances:

we meet the average cross section over a minimum of 100 samples generally so close that the tolerances stay within the allowable values for DIN 4196 (round chemical cords).

Knotted tensile strength:

the relative knotted tensile strength depends heavily on the type of the applied knot, the diameter of the used cord, and the monofile type wet strength: the relative wet strength is generally around 85% of the dry strength.
